Michelle Phan, who rose to fame on YouTube, opened Ipsy Open Studios in Santa Monica, CA last week, in an effort to give back. Ipsy Open Studios provide beauty entrepreneurs with valuable resources to encourage their success by offering free access to studio space, plus mentoring advice from Phan and her team. The program received more than 1,000 applications within hours of its launch. It’s hard to believe that just eight years ago Phan was a waitress, according to the article that Fortune posted today, which originally reported this news and spoke to Phan directly. In 2014, Phan worked with L’Oreal to launch the em Michelle Phan line on Amazon, and has also partnered with Endemol Beyond USA to create her own multi-channel network, ICON. That partnership, which was sealed in May 2014, marked one of the largest global deals in digital history between a YouTube star and an international media company. Endemol Beyond USA is a premium channel network affiliated with Endemol North America, which produces “Big Brother” (CBS), “Steve Harvey” (NBCU), “Wipeout” (ABC).
